Not engineering services
The author is not acting as your engineer. Reading this site, downloading the drawings, or contributing to the tip jar does not create a professional relationship. Nothing here is a substitute for a licensed professional engineer (PE) who has visited your site, reviewed your equipment schedules, and stamped drawings for permit.
Every non-trivial installation requires review by a PE in the relevant discipline (electrical, mechanical, fire protection) licensed in your jurisdiction. Where the guide’s value conflicts with your engineer of record, your AHJ, or your insurer, they win — always.
Standards move; verify the edition
Values in this guide are drawn from specific editions of published standards, named on each sheet. Standards are revised — sometimes in ways that change the arithmetic. Codes are also adopted and amended locally: your jurisdiction may enforce a different edition, or an amended version, of any standard cited here. Verify the edition and any local amendments before relying on a number.
Standards referenced include NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 75, NFPA 2001, ANSI/TIA-942-C, ANSI/TIA-607-D, ASHRAE TC 9.9, BICSI 002, Uptime Institute Tier Standard, ISO/IEC 22237, EN 50600, IBC, IFC and ASCE 7. Names and marks belong to their respective organizations. Only the standards themselves — not this guide — are authoritative.
